Both Yr 12 and 13 have had many opportunities to be involved in Aim Higher activities. Yr 13 have been supported in their UCAS application by both sixth form staff and tutors and have been able to make appointments with Natalie the graduate mentor. All sixth form have had presentations on the UCAS application process and the issues surrounding going to University like finance. Sixth form are encouraged to use the resources available to them to find out information about course choices and the UCAS process. Many Yr 13 students attended various University open days throughout the Autumn term. Other activities that the sixth form have been involved with are:
Year 12 have opportunity at the end of this term to attend sessions related to A2 skills like critical thinking and revision skills at JMU at drop in sessions throughout the Summer term.
4 Yr 12 students went to JMU to follow an undergraduate for the day and see with it was really like to be a student. The student shadowing events allow students to visit lectures and seminars and see how different University is to school life. Yr 12 students went on our annual visit to Manchester GMEX to visit the University fair where all Universities in the UK are represented. The event gives students the chance to speak to admissions tutors and sign up for newsletter
4 Yr 12 students have applied to attend a Sport Summer School at Liverpool John Moores University that is held in July. This is an exciting event where students will meet the admissions tutors for the Sports department at JMU and includes workshops in coaching and leadership skills.
Some Yr 12 students have applied to be part of the ‘Health’ strand of a new exciting Aim Higher programme in conjunction with Liverpool Hope University. Some of the students attended a 2 day event at Hope focussing on progression in the Healthcare industry and career opportunities. Next year this event will be followed up by a mentoring programme where undergraduate students studying a Health related course will come into school and mentor pour students and support their UCAS application.
